Dahlia:loves – winter warmers

The temperature has definitely dropped in this last week hasn’t it? So that means it’s time to snuggle down, get fires lit (if they’re not already) and shake off all of those winter blues.

Fairy lights & candles

There are some key things I like to do to make our house more cosy, one being a trip to Ikea to stock up on their battery fairy lights, with prices starting at £3 you can’t go wrong! They’re really useful and you can pop them on mantelpieces, in vases, and hanging in swags on the walls. For beautiful candles look no further than Toast, they are the masters of style and slow living, and well worth investing in.

Layer up your bed

Get the winter duvet out, pop on some linen bedding and layer up with at least two throws. Choose designs with different textures to create a tactile feel, you can always kick one off if you get too warm. Invest in some super squishy cushions, I love these ruffle edged blush pillows (below) from Also Home, the colour against the grey is so lovely.

Textures & more textures

Sheepskins on chairs and floors are the ultimate in luxury at this time of year, these are from the Dickens & Jones collection at House of Fraser. If you don’t fancy the real thing or you live with a veggie like I do who won’t let you (!), you can find faux ones around (try Ikea, Very, Laura Ashley). Keep throws to hand and use patterned cushions to add interest. Colourful vases are very much a trend and will brighten up gloomy winter days, so invest in two or three with different shapes and prints and pop some pretty blooms in them.

Invest in beautiful ceramics

We all need a mug that’s simply just for hot chocolate in the winter right? Then a matching plate for the homemade biscuits or shortbread from M&S – of course we do! This stunning range is from Rowen & Wren, one of my favourite independent online stores.

Set of two In-Out stoneware mugs, £58, stoneware biscuit plate, £10, stoneware bowl, £38, all seen here in tea rose, other colours available, Rowen & Wren.
